Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Admission into the university shall be open to all irrespective of religion, ethnic group, gender, creed and disability.

All admissions into the University shall be through the Joint admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). It is mandatory that each candidate pass the University Matriculation Examination (UME) organized by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board at an acceptable level.

Those who meet the requirements for admission will be subjected to interview to be conducted by the University.

Credit passes in both English Language and Mathematics are compulsory for admission into or graduation from any course in the University.

Prospective students would need to satisfy the following general requirements before they are offered admission into the University:

  • University Matriculation examination (UME) Mode
    Generally, candidates for admission into the undergraduate programmes in the College must have O-level passes at the credit level including English Language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings in the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) or the General Certificate of Education (GCE) .
  • Direct Entry Mode
    For candidates to qualify for direct entry, they must have A-level passes in two relevant subjects in addition to five credit passes at the O-level, which must include English Language and Mathematics, Candidates with good OND/ND or NCE passes may also be considered for admission via direct entry.
    However, this mode of admission shall not be operational in the first four years of the life of the University: only UME candidate shall be considered for admission during this period.

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Postgraduate programmes shall be domiciled in the postgraduate school under the leadership of the Dean. No postgraduate admission shall take place until the 5th year of inception when first graduate of the proposed University shall have finished their NYSC.

Graduate program at inception shall be in areas to be advised in due course.

Admission shall strictly be on the basis of possession of first class or second-class degree in all cases. Those with HND who have obtained postgraduate Diploma in the discipline may also be considered.

Candidates may also be required to attend interview subject to the approval of the Board of Postgraduate School.

Candidate for Ph.D shall normally possess a masters degree or its equivalent.

Candidates must normally score an average of B grade or CGPA of 3.0 in the course work of their Master degree.

Suitable academic transcripts and favourable referees’ report must accompany all applications.

Registered students of higher degrees from other universities may transfer to the University’s Postgraduate School if they meet the University’s conditions for entry to such degrees.
Duration

The duration for the Masters degree will be a minimum of 12 calendar months for full-time, 24 calendar months for part-time and a maximum of 36 calendar months.

A Doctorate degree will take a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months

In exceptional circumstances, Senate may grant an extension of time to a candidate on the recommendation of the College Board and the Board of the Postgraduate School. Such extension will not exceed 12 and 24 months for masters and Ph.D.  programmes respectively.

Students may combine their required course work with research work.
